Technology!

This is the first class that I have taken online. I originally choose to take this class online because I needed the flexibility that this class had to offer. I decided that it would be a good fit for me because English is one of the easier subjects for me and it would be easy for me to stay on top of the assignments. Although, this is an “online” class, the one thing I did not account for was how dependent I would become upon my computer! I was surprised with the different kinds of technologies I was expected to utilize from day one.
One of our first assignments was making a video. Making that video was a completely new experience for me. However, I enjoyed the chance to be creative and it was fun making a video of my life (my kids enjoyed the video too since it was all about them). Making videos is a fun new skill to have and I have already applied it in my everyday life through making more videos that feature my children.
Another technology that I became familiar with in this course was blogging. I was aware of the idea of blogging, yet I had never made a blog of my own. This was a fun, creative and easy way to share our ideas and keep in contact with our fellow classmates. Lately, I have been toying with the idea of creating a blog about my kids that will detail my daily adventures with them.
Taking this online class was a great experience for me. I learned new skills and most importantly, I learned how to successfully take an online class. I plan to take more online classes in the fall. Click Here for a website that contains information about the future of the internet and the use of new technologies.

  1. Great post, taking online classes for the first time can be a totally crazy experience but it's gets really fun when you get use to it. The video part I never like cause I really don't like talking on webcam cause it seems like your talking to yourself.

  2. I've had trouble with this course, although it is an online course, which should be my element.:) There were many skills that needed to be learned and refined for this class, and it did teach how to unify the different technological aspects very well. Good post.

  3. Like you Tracy, I had heard of blogging, but never thought I'd have one myself. I am thankful we were given this piece of technology in the class however because I really enjoyed having feedback from my classmates and also being able to read classmates work. It was a vital part of being able to learn and grow as an english student. I didn't care to do the introductory video, but all in all it wasn't bad. I think doing blog about your life with your kids sounds awesome! Sounds like something my wife would enjoy as well! Good luck with your future academics! Ive enjoyed having class with you!

  4. Tracy, I really agree on most of the things you had to say about this subject. Just like you, I joined this class because I liked the flexibility of it. I also liked that we did blogging and videos as well. I have made many videos so that wasn't very new for me, but it's awesome that you found a way you could possibly use it in everyday life. Blogging as well was new for me and I would like to use that as well in my life outside of class.

  5. The flexibility of an online course was important for me too. I am actually going to be taking all of my classes online after taking this first one. It makes things much easier for people with work or children to educate themselves. The blogging was weird for me too at first. Now that the semester is over I am much more comfortable with it.

  6. I liked your post, It was honest. I wish English was one of my easier subjects but it' not. I think if it is then online is the way to go. I also have never blogged before but have heard of it. I wasn't to sure about it but I have came around. I see how it makes an online course more personable, especially an English course. Good nice and I enjoyed reading some of your post throughout the year.

  7. Tracy,
I can relate to you in many ways about your experience with creating videos and making a blog. I also did not have the experience, nor knowledge of how to make either one of these on my own before taking this class. I feel that the knowledge and experience of using these two technologies will help me in the future if other classes require or even suggest using them because I will already know how.
