Mid-Term Check In

March 27, 2012

Tracy Bosick
Laura Cline
English 102

Dear Mrs. Cline,

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to take your class. Not only have I improved in my reading and writing skills, I have become a more confident student. This is my first semester back in school in almost four years. Before the semester started, I wondered about what being back in school would be like and I wondered what kind of student I would be. Your class has taught me that I have all the skills that I need to be successful as long as I do my best and put everything I have into my assignments. I also really appreciate how thorough you are. Online classes have the potential to lose their integrity; however, the structured way that you present your assignments along with different forms of technology, including, blogs and videos really helps to make your assignments more than homework, but learning experiences.
As a mom, I would have to say that my biggest challenge is making sure I have the proper amount of time to devote to your class. Homework is almost impossible to do with a two year old and four year old around. I am glad that I have had the discipline this far to study during nap time and stay up to work on homework after they have gone to bed. I can attribute my success to my attitude. I have made this class a priority in my mind, so even if I am tired or I have other things that I would rather be doing, I visualize in my head how satisfied I will be when I have passed this class and am one step closer to becoming a registered nurse.
My goal for the second half of this class is to stay focused. I believe I have done a good job so far staying on task and completing my homework assignments. I plan to continue to do my best on all assignments given. However, I do believe there are areas in my writing where I can improve. I want to become more confident with in quote citations and literary analysis. Finally, I want to finish this class with an A.

Sincerely,
Tracy Bosick

  1. First of all, you are awesome! Way to stay focused. I can't imagine doing all this work with two little ones. Time has been my biggest challenge also. This is my last semester at Yavapai, as I will be finally getting my Associate's, after three and a half years! I have not had your discipline and have just had the busiest 3 months of my life! I have finished our move to NH and have made it my goal to get focused for the rest of the semester. We will do it together! Good luck and I hope you get your A!

  2. Wow, two kids at those young ages? That must be tough. I would like to applaud you for your patience and dedication to both this class and your children! Hopefully the rest of the semester will pass by easily for you. Good luck!

  3. Tracy: Thank you for posting your letter. You have used great words to express some of the same feelings I have. Truly this has been a great class, hard work, but great none the less. You are taking on a lot with two young ones in your house and adding school to the mix. Keep up your perseverance toward the end result of your RN degree. Everything is within our grasp, we just have to have the tenacity to hold on to it with all we are worth. I wish you the best in accomplishing your dreams.

  4. Hi Tracy,
I enjoyed your blog post. I too am a mother and I agree that finding time to study and find time for school work is really hard at times. It takes major dedication. I wish you luck with the rest of your semester!

  5. Ha! I can relate, lass. I'm a Mr. Mom with an autistic 9-year-old and a very active 2-year-old. It is an absolute pain sometimes to find that perfect thought rolling around in your head, you begin writing, and .... "Daaaaad! The cartoons are over!!"

What's the expression? If I had only known then what I know now...

  6. Tracy,
Welcome back to school. I know that it is very hard to come back. My sister is also coming back after 3 years. She is trying to devote her time in her homework. I help her as much as I can so she can achieve. I also take 4 classes here, 2 online and 2 in class. It is a struggle but I have learned to pick a day and sit down and do as much as I can. I really like your letter good job! I hope you do very well the rest of the semester!

  7. Hello,

I completely understand with the fact that it is hard to go back to school. I can't imagine how hard it would be with children so young. I do work full-time though so that takes up a lot of my time. Well good luck with the rest of the semester! And good job on the letter!

  8. The fact that you are a mother of two little ones and you are doing school is incredible. That must be very hard. You do a good job on all your blogs that I see. Keep up the good work and good luck on the second half.

  9. I really liked your post, and i can understand it is truly hard to make time for both class and children. Children can be doing so many things and it's hard to find time but it awesome you do make time.

  10. It is really cool that you are back in school, your kids will look up to you. I know I look up to my parent furthering their education. I can concur with you about not feeling like I can write the best I probably can. Citing is something I struggle with, also. The last part of the semester is always the hardest for me, I get very lazy and may start slacking, hopefully we can stay focused. Great letter!
